I-95 Goldstar Bridge Sidewalk / Pedestrian Path over the Thames River in Groton and New London to be Closed to Pedestrian and Bicycle Traffic Beginning August 13, 2018

Beginning August 13, 2018, the sidewalk on the Gold Star Bridge will be temporarily closed to pedestrian traffic. SEAT Transit will operate free, bicycle and pedestrian shuttle service for the duration of the closure. The closure is estimated to last 10 weeks. Service will operate from 6am to 6pm, 7 days a week, every 30 minutes. Stops include:

The extended closure of the sidewalk has been necessitated by the extent of deterioration recently identified. Some of the deterioration can be seen in pictures posted in the Photo Gallery for the month of May 2018 in this website.

 

Gold Star Memorial Bridge I-95 Southbound Rehabilitation Project Update:

May 18, 2018 – Upcoming Traffic Stage Change


Stage Change. The number of lanes across the Gold Star Bridge is to be increased from 3 to 4 lanes and the Bridge Street On-Ramp is to be re-opened on I-95 Southbound at the Gold Star Bridge beginning May 25, 2018. Nighttime lane closures will begin on May 21, 2018 to shift temporary concrete barrier curbs and reconfigure roadway pavement markings.

The I-95 SB travel lanes shall remain on the south side of the bridge and State Route 184 (Gold Star Highway) on-ramp will continue as a dedicated lane. The new right lane will begin as a dedicated lane for the Bridge Street on ramp. The roadway pavement markings will be reconfigured to delineate 4 lanes of traffic across the bridge. The work zone will be separated from the roadway with temporary concrete barrier curb. Thru-traffic will keep to the left three lanes. The right lane will remain a dedicated exit lane at Exit 84 to Route 32.
